The most beloved musical of all time, Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady is coming to Toowoomba's Empire Theatre this September. This lavish new production, presented by the Toowoomba Choral Society, is lead by a stellar creative team, including award-winning director Kate Peters.
A musical all the family will love, My Fair Lady is about transformation, patronage, gender politics and class.
It first opened on Broadway in 1956 and during its long run, collected six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The film version, starring Audrey Hepburn was released in 1964 and won eight Oscars, including Best Picture. It has been hailed by both critics and audiences.
The tale of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady is based on the 1913 stage play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw and features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores, which includes popular favourites “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?,” “With a Little Bit of Luck,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Me to the Church on Time,” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”
