Juniors celebrate in style at Monto netball presentation
NETBALL: The Central Burnett Challenge netball season has officially drawn to a close and Monto saluted its junior stars at the club's awards night.
Monto junior netball boasts five teams across three age groups and 13 individual prizes were handed out to players as a reward for stellar performances throughout the season.
So successful was the Gliders' (U10A) year that each player received a trophy. The Pink Weapons (U15) awards will be announced at a later date.
Monto Netball Association president Belinda Steger was thrilled to celebrate the end of another successful year for the club.
"We did very well with the Central Burnett Challenge and had place-getters in each age group,” Steger said.
"Our numbers were up from last year and it's been improvement, improvement, improvement from all of our teams.
"They all grew as a team and got better as the season went on.
"We've got a great bunch of kids - they do Monto proud.”
Netball is bucking the trend, seemingly immune from the declining participation other junior sports are facing in the North Burnett.
Monto's mixed night fixtures were a resounding success and Steger said the strength of the club was testament to its hard-working volunteers.
"We're holding our own but you never know what the next year is going to bring,” she said.
"At the moment we're taking it year by year.
"Thanks to all the kids, parents and committee members for a terrific season.
"I assume our next AGM will be in February next year. Everyone is welcome to get involved in the future of Monto netball.”
